A Tribute To Dunbar Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCE FGFGHIHI GJKJLMLM

The sweetest singer once thou wast but art no moreA
An elf thou wast of what thou now shalt beB
Where thou art in realms of that celestial shoreA
There thou shalt sing through all eternityB
We peerless bard bewail thy lossC
And shed heart broken tearsD
Though meekly thou hast borne thy crossC
And winged the flight of yearsE
-
Thrice blessed singer wrapped in heavenly blissF
Of earth's poor souls thy fortune who can tellG
Perchance thy splendid lot be solely thisF
To change thy lute with the angel IsrafelG
If so then smite thy golden stringsH
With fingers nimble strongI
Till all along fair heaven ringsH
With cadence of thy songI
-
Thee tyrant earth once held imprisoned soulG
That suffered tortures of relentless strifeJ
Fair heaven now holds within her sheltered foldK
And gives thee robe and harp eternal lifeJ
Grant him O God unfaltering breathL
To sing from heaven afarM
A song to cheer our souls in deathL
The peerless Paul DunbarM
