The Skokie Theater Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQGRS TUSVDWJAX

Twelve years old and lovesick bumblingA
and terrified for the first time in my lifeB
but strangely hopeful too and stunnedC
definitely stunned I wanted to cryD
I almost started to sob when Chris KleinE
actually touched me oh God below the beltF
in the back row of the Skokie TheatreG
Our knees bumped helplessly our mouthsH
were glued together like flypaper our lipsI
were grinding in a hysterical grimaceJ
while the most handsome man in the worldK
twitched his hips on the flickering screenL
and the girls began to scream in the darkM
I didn t know one thing about the body yetN
about the deep foam filling my bonesO
but I wanted to cry out in desolationP
when she touched me again when the lightsQ
flooded in the crowded theatreG
and the other kids started to fileR
into the narrow aisle into a lobbyS
of faded purple splendor into the lastT
Saturday in August before she moved awayU
I never wanted to move again but suddenlyS
we were being lifted toward the sidewalkV
in a crush of bodies blinking shyD
unprepared for the ringing familiar voicesW
and the harsh glare of sunlight the brightnessJ
of an afternoon that left us grippingA
each other s hands trembling and changedX
