Lay Back The Darkness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AB CD EF GH IB JK AE LM NO

My father in the night shuffling from room to roomA
on an obscure mission through the hallwayB
-
Help me spirits to penetrate his dreamC
and ease his restless passageD
-
Lay back the darkness for a salesmanE
who could charm everything but the shadowsF
-
an immigrant who stands on the thresholdG
of a vast nightH
-
without his walker or his caneI
and cannot remember what he meant to sayB
-
though his right arm is raised as if in prophecyJ
while his left shakes uselessly in warningK
-
My father in the night shuffling from room to roomA
is no longer a father or a husband or a sonE
-
but a boy standing on the edge of a forestL
listening to the distant cry of wolvesM
-
to wild dogsN
to primitive wingbeats shuddering in the treetopsO
