- | |
A hook shot kisses the rim and | B |
hangs there helplessly but doesn't drop | C |
- | |
and for once our gangly starting center | A |
boxes out his man and times his jump | D |
- | |
perfectly gathering the orange leather | A |
from the air like a cherished possession | E |
- | |
and spinning around to throw a strike | F |
to the outlet who is already shoveling | G |
- | |
an underhand pass toward the other guard | H |
scissoring past a flat footed defender | A |
- | |
who looks stunned and nailed to the floor | I |
in the wrong direction trying to catch sight | J |
- | |
of a high gliding dribble and a man | K |
letting the play develop in front of him | L |
- | |
in slow motion almost exactly | M |
like a coach's drawing on the blackboard | N |
- | |
both forwards racing down the court | O |
the way that forwards should fanning out | P |
- | |
and filling the lanes in tandem moving | G |
together as brothers passing the ball | Q |
- | |
between them without a dribble without | P |
a single bounce hitting the hardwood | R |
- | |
until the guard finally lunges out | P |
and commits to the wrong man | K |
- | |
while the power forward explodes past them | S |
in a fury taking the ball into the air | T |
- | |
by himself now and laying it gently | M |
against the glass for a lay up | U |
- | |
but losing his balance in the process | V |
inexplicably falling hitting the floor | I |
- | |
with a wild headlong motion | E |
for the game he loved like a country | M |
- | |
and swiveling back to see an orange blur | A |
floating perfectly though the net | W |
