When Beauty Is Bald Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCCE FGFHIGIIG JKJJAJAAJ

I ve sung of Honor s golden hairA
And Hero s auburn tressesB
Of Bella s back abundance whereA
The sun throws his caressesB
I ve sung of curl and coil and braidC
On meshes I ve dilatedD
Until at last I m sore afraidC
There s nothing re the hair of maidC
That I have left unstatedE
-
Twill much relieve the constant strainF
Of rhyming to extol herG
When on the roof of Sophie s brainF
Appears a bright cupolaH
The poet s verse will freshly runI
Effects will come much fasterG
If he may tell the darling oneI
Her skull is glowing like the sunI
And smooth as alabasterG
-
New stimulus the singer nervesJ
When beauty scorning switchesK
Adds to her many swelling curvesJ
A baldness that bewitchesJ
We ve sung too many wigs I swearA
And now the poet mocks mythsJ
For Juliet in her head of airA
Outshines the moon and everywhereA
Love really laughs at locksmithsJ
