Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFADAD GHIHJKJK

Ben Unger s wife was dark and smallA
With little round black eyesB
Ben Unger started at her callA
For Ben had been made wiseB
No dirge could crush his spirit butC
The one by Annie sungD
No whip lash ever made could cutC
Like Annie Unger s tongueD
-
But Annie had a round red cheekE
A figure like a plumF
And Henderson from up the creekE
In courtship sly would comeF
Then Annie voiced no angry callA
Here dirge remained unsungD
And very gentle was the fallA
Of Annie Unger s tongueD
-
Ned Holman went to Ben uponG
The hill in Colter s hayH
He said your wife with HendersonI
Ran off at ten to dayH
Ben stood stock still All right said heJ
Then with a little laughK
That makes us quits at last Twas meJ
That stole his brindle calfK
