ALL WAS UP with Richard TannerA
Wait a Bit we called him DeadB
Yes The braceman dropped a spannerA
Landed Richard on the headB
Cracked his skull sir like a teacupC
Down the pump shaft in the wellD
Braceman hadn t time to speak upC
Tanner never knew what fellD
-
Tell the widow Who d go through itE
No one on the shift would stirA
But Pat Ryan said he d do itE
Nately break the news to herA
Pat s a splitter and a kinderA
Heart I never wish to knowF
Stephens told him where to find herA
Begged him gently deal the blowF
-
In a very solemn mannerA
Ryan met the dead man s wifeG
Mornin to yez Widdy TannerA
Says he gravely Such is lifeG
I m no widow says she pryingH
For the joke in Ryan s eyeI
Scuse me mum says Paddy sighingH
Scuse me mum but that s a lieI
-
That remark would be repentedJ
If Dick Tanner heard says sheK
Meanin mum the late lamentedJ
Party av that name says heK
Still the widow missed the notionL
Wonder only filled her eyeI
So Pat smothered his emotionL
Gulped and had another tryI
-
Tis like this ye see me honeyK
I ve been sint t let ye knowF
Ye ve inherited some moneyK
Twilve r fifteen pounds r soF
Through a schame av Providence sM
Which no mortal man could dodgeN
Poor Dick s funeral expensesO
Have fell due mum at the lodgeN
