When We Are Old And These Rejoicing Veins Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGG

When we are old and these rejoicing veinsA
Are frosty channels to a muted streamB
And out of all our burning their remainsA
No feeblest spark to fire us even in dreamB
This be our solace that it was not saidC
When we were young and warm and in our primeD
Upon our couch we lay as lie the deadC
Sleeping away the unreturning timeD
O sweet O heavy lidded O my loveE
When morning strikes her spear upon the landF
And we must rise and arm us and reproveE
The insolent daylight with a steady handF
Be not discountenanced if the knowing knowG
We rose from rapture but an hour agoG
