Love Is Not All Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDEFGFGHI

Love is not all it is not meat nor drinkA
Nor slumber nor a roof against the rainB
Nor yet a floating spar to men that sinkA
And rise and sink and rise and sink againC
Love can not fill the thickened lung with breathD
Nor clean the blood nor set the fractured boneE
Yet many a man is making friends with deathD
Even as I speak for lack of love aloneE
It well may be that in a difficult hourF
Pinned down by pain and moaning for releaseG
Or nagged by want past resolution's powerF
I might be driven to sell your love for peaceG
Or trade the memory of this night for foodH
It well may be I do not think I wouldI

Brenda Bernier: Read this as a young adult and it captured my dispair. Now, as an Old Soul I share it with my sons. Ever present with heartache but abounding Hope.
