Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEE FFGHIIThe seas are quiet when the winds give o'er | A |
So calm are we when passions are no more | B |
For then we know how vain it was to boast | C |
Of fleeting things so certain to be lost | D |
Clouds of affection from our younger eyes | E |
Conceal that emptiness which age descries | E |
- | |
The soul's dark cottage batter'd and decay'd | F |
Lets in new light through chinks that Time hath made | F |
Stronger by weakness wiser men become | G |
As they draw near to their eternal home | H |
Leaving the old both worlds at once they view | I |
That stand upon the threshold of the new | I |
