Old Age Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEE FFGHII

The seas are quiet when the winds give o'erA
So calm are we when passions are no moreB
For then we know how vain it was to boastC
Of fleeting things so certain to be lostD
Clouds of affection from our younger eyesE
Conceal that emptiness which age descriesE
-
The soul's dark cottage batter'd and decay'dF
Lets in new light through chinks that Time hath madeF
Stronger by weakness wiser men becomeG
As they draw near to their eternal homeH
Leaving the old both worlds at once they viewI
That stand upon the threshold of the newI
