In praise of Eliza Queen of the ShepherdsA
-
-
See where she sits upon the grassie greeneB
O seemely sightC
Yclad in Scarlot like a mayden QueeneB
And ermines whiteC
Upon her head a Cremosin coronetD
With Damaske roses and Daffadillies setD
Bay leaves betweeneB
And primroses greeneB
Embellish the sweete VioletE
-
Tell me have ye seene her angelick faceF
Like Phoebe fayreG
Her heavenly haveour her princely graceF
Can you well compareG
The Redde rose medled with the White yfereG
In either cheeke depeincten lively chereG
Her modest eyeH
Her MajestieE
Where have you seene the like but thereG
-
I see Calliope speede her to the placeF
Where my Goddesse shinesI
And after her the other Muses traceF
With their ViolinesF
Bene they not Bay braunches which they do beareG
All for Elisa in her hand to weareG
So sweetely they playJ
And sing all the wayJ
That it a heaven is to heareG
-
Lo how finely the Graces can it footeE
To the InstrumentE
They dauncen deffly and singen sooteE
In their merimentE
Wants not a fourth Grace to make the daunce evenB
Let that rowme to my Lady be yevenB
She shal be a GraceF
To fyll the fourth placeF
And reigne with the rest in heavenB
-
Bring hether the Pincke and purple CullambineB
With GelliflowresF
Bring Coronations and Sops in wineB
Worne of ParamouresF
Strowe me the ground with DaffadowndilliesF
And Cowslips and Kingcups and lov egrave d LilliesF
The pretie PawnceF
And the ChevisaunceF
Shall match with the fayre flowre DeliceF
-
Now ryse up Elisa deck egrave d as thou artE
In royall arayG
And now ye daintie Damsells may departE
Eche one her wayJ
I feare I have troubled your troupes to longeK
Let dame Elisa thanke you for her songL
And if you come hetherG
When Damsines I getherG
I will part them all you amongM
