The One Grief Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAABBA DEDDED

One grief there is the helpmeet of my heartA
That shall not from me till my days be spedB
That walks beside me in sunshine and in shadeC
And hath in all my fortunes equal partA
At first I feared it and would often startA
Aghast to find it bending o'er my bedB
Till usage slowly dulled the edge of dreadB
And one cold night I cried How warm thou artA
-
Since then we two have travelled hand in handD
And lo my grief has been interpreterE
For me in many a fierce and alien landD
Whose speech young Joy had failed to understandD
Plucking me tribute of red gold and myrrhE
From desolate whirlings of the desert sandD
