Non Dolet! Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCABDD EFFDDE GHHIJJG KLKIL

Age after age the fruit of knowledge fallsA
To ashes on men's lipsB
Love fails faith sickens like a dying treeC
Life sheds its dreams that no new spring recallsA
The longed for shipsB
Come empty home or founder on the deepD
And eyes first lose their tears and then their sleepD
-
So weary a world it lies forlorn of dayE
And yet not wholly darkF
Since evermore some soul that missed the markF
Calls back to those agropeD
In the mad maze of hopeD
Courage my brothers I have found the wayE
-
The day is lost What thenG
What though the straggling rear guard of the fightH
Be whelmed in fear and nightH
And the flying scouts proclaimI
That death has gripped the vanJ
Ever the heart of manJ
Cheers on the hearts of menG
-
It hurts not dying cried the Roman wifeK
And one by oneL
The leaders in the strifeK
Fall on the blade of failure and exclaimI
The day is wonL
