The Spell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IHIH JKJK

OUR boat has drifted with the streamA
That stirs the river's full sweet bosomB
And now she stays where gold flags gleamA
By meadow sweet's pale foam of blossomB
-
-
Sedge warblers sing the sun the songC
The nightingale sings to the shadowsD
Forget me nots grow all alongC
The fringes of the happy meadowsD
-
-
See the wet lilies' golden beadsE
The river nymphs for necklace string themF
And in the sighing of the reedsE
You hear the song their lovers sing themF
-
-
Gold sun blue air green shimmering leavesG
The weir's old song the wood's old storyH
Such spells the enchanting Summer weavesG
She holds me in a web of gloryH
-
-
And you with head against my armI
And subtle wiles that seek to hold meH
Not even you can add a charmI
To the sweet sorceries that enfold meH
-
-
Yet lean there still The hour is oursJ
If we should move the charm might shiverK
And joyless sun and scentless flowersJ
Might mock a disenchanted riverK
