There was never winter summer only rosesB
Pink and white and redC
Shining down the warm rich garden closesB
Quiet trees and lawns of dappled shadowD
Silver lilies whisper of mignonetteD
Cloth of gold of buttercups outspreadD
Good gold sun that kissed me when we metD
Shadows of floating clouds on sunny meadowD
In the hay field scented greyE
Loving life and love I layE
By fresh airs blown drifted into sleepF
Slept and dreamed there Winter was the dreamG

-
Summer never was was always winter onlyH
Cold and ice and frostD
Only driven by the ice wind lonelyH
In a world of strangers in the welterI
Of the puddles and the spiteful wind and sleetD
Blinded by the spitting hailstones lostD
In a bitter unfamiliar streetD
I found a doorway crouched there for just shelterI
Crouched and fought in vain for breathJ
Cursed the cold and wished for deathJ
Crouched there gathered somehow warmth to sleepF
Slept and dreamed there Summer was the dreamG
