The Past Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGHGIJKJ LMNMOPMP

MAKE strong your door with bolt and barA
Make every window fastB
Strong brass and iron as they areA
They are so easy passedB
So easy broken and cast asideC
And by the open doorD
My footsteps come to your guarded homeE
And pass away no moreD
-
-
In the golden noon by the lovers' moonF
My shadow bars your wayG
My shroud shows white in the blackest nightH
And grey in the gladdest dayG
And by your board and by your bedI
There is a place for meJ
And in the glow when the coals burn lowK
My face is the face ye seeJ
-
-
I come between when ye laugh and leanL
I burn in the tears ye weepM
I am there when ye wake in the gray day breakN
From the gold of a lovers' sleepM
I wither the rose and I spoil the songO
And Death is not strong to saveP
For I shall creep while your mourners weepM
And wait for you in your graveP
