The Daisies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDAAEFFEBBG AHIHAIJKKHILMLMDDHHA AAAA

In the great green park with the wooden palingsA
The wooden palings so hard to climbB
There are fern and foxglove primrose and violetC
And green things growing all the timeB
And out in the open the daisies growD
Pretty and proud in their proper placesA
Millions of white frilled daisy facesA
Millions and millions not one or twoE
And they call to the bluebells down in the woodF
'Are you out are you in We have been so goodF
All the school time winter throughE
But now it's playtimeB
The gay time the May timeB
We are out and at play Where are you 'G
-
In the gritty garden inside the railingsA
The spiky railings all painted greenH
There are neat little beds of geraniums and fuchsiaI
With never a happy weed betweenH
There's a neat little grass plot bald in placesA
And very dusty to touchI
A respectable man comes once a weekJ
To keep the garden weeded and sweptK
To keep it as we don't want it keptK
He cuts the grass with his mowing machineH
And we think he cuts it too muchI
But even on the lawn all dry and grittyL
The daisies play aboutM
They are so brave as well as so prettyL
You cannot keep them outM
I love them I want to let them growD
But that respectable man says noD
He cuts off their heads with his mowing machineH
Like the French Revolution guillotineH
He sweeps up the poor little pretty facesA
The dear little white frilled daisy facesA
Says things must be kept in their proper placesA
He has no frill round his ugly faceA
I wish I could find his proper placeA
