The Confession Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHGHIJIJ KLKLMGMG BNBOGEGE JBJBOPO

I HAVEN'T always acted goodA
I've taken things not meant for meB
Not other people's drink and foodC
But things they never seemed to seeB
I haven't done the way I oughtD
If all they say in church is trueE
But all I've had I've fairly boughtF
And paid for pretty heavy tooE
-
For days and weeks are very longG
If you get nothing new and brightH
And if you never do no wrongG
Somehow you never do no rightH
The chap that daresent go a yardI
For fear the path should lead astrayJ
May be a saint though that seems hardI
But he's no traveller any wayJ
-
Some things I can't be sorry forK
The things that silly people hateL
But some I did I do deploreK
I knew inside they wasn't straightL
And when my last account is filedM
And stuck up angels stop their songG
I'll ask God's pardon like a childM
For what I really knew was wrongG
-
If you've a child you'd rather seeB
A bit of temper off and onN
A greedy grab a silly spreeB
And then a brave thing said or doneO
Than hear your boy whine all day longG
About the things he musn't doE
Just doing nothing right or wrongG
And God may feel the same as youE
-
For God's our Father so they sayJ
He made His laws and He made meB
He'll understand about the wayJ
Me and His laws could not agreeB
He might say 'You're worth more My sonO
Than all My laws since law beganP
Take good with bad here's something doneO
And I'm your God and you're My man '-
