Possession Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ

THE child was yours and none of mineA
And yet you gave it me to keepB
And bade me sew it raiment fineA
And wrap my kisses round its sleepB
-
I carried it upon my breastC
I fed it in a world apartD
I wrapped my kisses round its restC
I rocked its cradle with my heartD
-
When in mad nights of rain and stormE
You turned us homeless from your doorF
I wrapped it close I kept it warmE
And brought it safe to you once moreF
-
But the last time you drove us forthG
The snow was wrapped about its headH
That night the wind blew from the NorthG
And on my heart the child was deadH
-
The child is mine and none of yoursI
My life was his while he had breathJ
What of your claim to him enduresI
Who only gave him birth and deathJ
