De Profundis Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDDCAEEEFGGCHCH

NOW I am cast into the serpent pitA
And catching difficult breathB
From the writhing loathsome ceaseless stir of itA
The venomous whispers of curling clasping DeathB
I lift my soul out of the pit to TheeC
And reaching with my soul to where Thou artD
Look down seeing with free heartD
The beast God gave my soul for companyC
Lie with companions fitA
And bid with a good willE
The serpent fangs of illE
Take their foul fillE
Of the foul fell it woreF
Though a thousand serpent heads were raised to slayG
A thousand twisting coils writhed where it layG
There lies the beast there let it lie for meC
And agonize and raveH
For Thou has raised my soul Thy soul to TheeC
Thy soul dear Lord Thou hast been strong to saveH
