Day And Night Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH

NIGHT ambushed in the darkling woodA
Waited to seize the sleeping fieldB
His sentinels the pine trees stoodA
Till the sun fell beneath his shieldB
Then when the day at last was deadC
Night in his might marched conqueringD
Across the land his banner spreadC
And reigned as victor and as KingD
-
-
And you and I all days apartE
Rejoiced to see Night's victoryF
Because he has a kindlier heartE
Than Day wears with his sovereigntyF
Day keeps us prisoned close but NightG
Lifts off Day's chains and all night throughH
You dream of me my life's delightG
And all night through I dream of youH
