-
BEFORE your life that is to comeB
Love stands with eager eyes that vainlyC
Seek to discern what gift may fitD
The slow unfolding years of itD
And still Time's lips are sealed and dumbB
And still Love sees no future plainlyC
-
-
We cannot guess what flowers will springE
Best in your garden bloom most brightlyC
But some fair flowers in any plotF
Will spring and grow and wither notF
And such wish flowers we gladly bringE
And in that small hand lay them lightlyC
-
-
Baby we wish that those dear eyesG
May see fulfilment of our dreamingE
Those little feet may turn from wrongH
Those hands to hold the right be strongH
That heart be pure that mind be wiseG
To know the true from the true seemingE
-
-
We wish that all your life may beC
A life of selfless brave endeavourI
That for reward the fates allowJ
Such love as lines your soft nest nowJ
To warm the years for you when weC
Who wish you this are cold for everI
