And The Rains Descended And The Floods Came Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDD EFEFGG HIHIJ AKAKDD

NOW the far waves roll nearer and more nearA
The wind's awake the pitiless wind's awakeB
It shrieks the menace that I dare not hearC
Soon at my feet the angry waves will breakB
In desolating wrath and here I standD
Helpless my house is built upon the sandD
-
O you whose house upon a rock is setE
Laugh safe and sure at threatening wave and windF
You chose the better part and yet and yetE
There was no other ground that I could findF
And I was weary and I longed to raiseG
A house to guard my shivering nights and daysG
-
And it was pleasant in the house I madeH
While still the floods and winds were held asleepI
I blessed it at the dawn at night I prayedH
As though its dear foundations had been deepI
Sunk in the rock I whispered in surmiseJ
'What if winds never wake floods never rise '-
-
And now the waves are near and very nearA
And here I wait and wonder which may beK
The wave in which my house will disappearA
My little house that loved and sheltered meK
Where joy still sings her garland in her handD
Built on the sand oh God built on the sandD
