A Tragedy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG HIHJ FKFK LMLM

Among his books he sits all dayA
To think and read and writeB
He does not smell the new mown hayA
The roses red and whiteB
-
I walk among them all aloneC
His silly stupid wifeD
The world seems tasteless dead and doneE
An empty thing is lifeD
-
At night his window casts a squareF
Of light upon the lawnG
I sometimes walk and watch it thereF
Until the chill of dawnG
-
I have no brain to understandH
The books he loves to readI
I only have a heart and handH
He does not seem to needJ
-
He calls me Child lays on my hairF
Thin fingers cold and mildK
Oh God of Love who answers prayerF
I wish I were a childK
-
And no one sees and no one knowsL
He least would know or seeM
That ere Love gathers next year's roseL
Death will have gathered meM
