Tom Beatty Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEFDGAEHIJAFKLMN O

I was a lawyer like Harmon WhitneyA
Or Kinsey Keene or Garrison StandardB
For I tried the rights of propertyA
Although by lamp light for thirty yearsC
In that poker room in the opera houseD
And I say to you that Life's a gamblerE
Head and shoulders above us allF
No mayor alive can close the houseD
And if you lose you can squeal as you willG
You'll not get back your moneyA
He makes the percentage hard to conquerE
He stacks the cards to catch your weaknessH
And not to meet your strengthI
And he gives you seventy years to playJ
For if you cannot win in seventyA
You cannot win at allF
So if you lose get out of the roomK
Get out of the room when your time is upL
It's mean to sit and fumble the cardsM
And curse your losses leaden eyedN
Whining to try and tryO
