The Room Of Mirrors Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEFFGGHHIIHHH HHHHJJKKDCLMHHK NNOOPPQPQRRAAHHOORRS H

I saw a room where many feet were dancingA
The ceiling and the wall were mirrors glancingA
Both flames of candles and the heaven's lightB
Though windows there were none for air or flightB
The room was in a form polygonalC
Reached by a little door and narrow hallD
One could behold them enter for the danceE
And waken as it were out of a tranceE
And either singly or with some one whirlF
The old the young full livers boy and girlF
And every panel of the room was justG
A mirrored door through which a hand was thrustG
Here there around the room a soul to seizeH
Whereat a scream would rise but no surceaseH
Of music or of dancing save by himI
Drawn through the mirrored panel to the dimI
And unknown space behind the flashing mirrorsH
And by his partner struck through by the terrorsH
Of sudden lossH
-
And looking I could seeH
That scarcely any dancer here could freeH
His eyes from off the mirrors but would gazeH
Upon himself or others till a crazeH
Shone in his eyes thus to anticipateJ
The hand that took each dancer soon or lateJ
Some analyzed themselves some only glancedK
Some stared and paled and then more madly dancedK
One dancer only never looked at allD
He seemed soul captured by the carnivalC
There were so many dancers there he lovedL
He was so greatly by the music movedM
He had no time to study his own faceH
There in the mirrors as from place to placeH
He quickly dancedK
-
Until I saw at lastN
This dancer by the whirling dancers castN
Face full against a mirrored panel whereO
Before he could look at himself or stareO
He plunged through to the other side and quickP
As water closes when you lift the stickP
The mirrored panel swung in place and leftQ
No trace of him as 'twere a magic trickP
But all his partners thus so soon bereftQ
Went dancing to the music as beforeR
But I saw faces in that mirrored doorR
Anatomizing their forced smiles and watchingA
Their faces over shoulders even matchingA
Their terror with each other's to repressH
A growing fear in seeing it was lessH
Than some one else's or to ease despairO
By looking in a face who did not careO
While watching for the hand that through some doorR
Caught a poor dancer from the dancing floorR
With every time beat of the orchestraS
What is this room of mirrors Who can sayH
