Tennessee Claflin Shope Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMLGNO

I was the laughing stock of the villageA
Chiefly of the people of good sense as they call themselvesB
Also of the learned like Rev Peet who read GreekC
The same as EnglishD
For instead of talking free tradeE
Or preaching some form of baptismF
Instead of believing in the efficacyG
Of walking cracks picking up pins the right wayH
Seeing the new moon over the right shoulderI
Or curing rheumatism with blue glassJ
I asserted the sovereignty of my own soulK
Before Mary Baker G Eddy even got startedL
With what she called scienceM
I had mastered the Bhagavad GitaL
And cured my soul before MaryG
Began to cure bodies with soulsN
Peace to all worldsO
