Sersmith The Dentist Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEDFGHIJHHKLMNOPQ DDDRS

Do you think that odes and sermonsA
And the ringing of church bellsB
And the blood of old men and young menC
Martyred for the truth they sawD
With eyes made bright by faith in GodE
Accomplished the world's great reformationsD
Do you think that the Battle Hymn of the RepublicF
Would have been heard if the chattel slaveG
Had crowned the dominant dollarH
In spite of Whitney's cotton ginI
And steam and rolling mills and ironJ
And telegraphs and white free laborH
Do you think that Daisy FraserH
Had been put out and driven outK
If the canning works had never neededL
Her little house and lotM
Or do you think the poker roomN
Of Johnnie Taylor and Burchard's barO
Had been closed up if the money lostP
And spent for beer had not been turnedQ
By closing them to Thomas RhodesD
For larger sales of shoes and blanketsD
And children's cloaks and gold oak cradlesD
Why a moral truth is a hollow toothR
Which must be propped with goldS
