Rutherford Mcdowell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFAGAAHIJKALMMAN OOOOAM

They brought me ambrotypesA
Of the old pioneers to enlargeB
And sometimes one sat for meC
Some one who was in beingD
When giant hands from the womb of the worldE
Tore the republicF
What was it in their eyesA
For I could never fathomG
That mystical pathos of drooped eyelidsA
And the serene sorrow of their eyesA
It was like a pool of waterH
Amid oak trees at the edge of a forestI
Where the leaves fallJ
As you hear the crow of a cockK
From a far off farm house seen near the hillsA
Where the third generation lives and the strong menL
And the strong women are gone and forgottenM
And these grand children and great grand childrenM
Of the pioneersA
Truly did my camera record their faces tooN
With so much of the old strength goneO
And the old faith goneO
And the old mastery of life goneO
And the old courage goneO
Which labors and loves and suffers and singsA
Under the sunM
