Robert Southey Burke Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFEGFHCIAJKLMCCF NOP

I spent my money trying to elect you MayorA
A D BloodB
I lavished my admiration upon youC
You were to my mind the almost perfect manD
You devoured my personalityE
And the idealism of my youthF
And the strength of a high souled fealtyE
And all my hopes for the worldG
And all my beliefs in TruthF
Were smelted up in the blinding heatH
Of my devotion to youC
And molded into your imageI
And then when I found what you wereA
That your soul was smallJ
And your words were falseK
As your blue white porcelain teethL
And your cuffs of celluloidM
I hated the love I had for youC
I hated myself I hated youC
For my wasted soul and wasted youthF
And I say to all beware of idealsN
Beware of giving your love awayO
To any man aliveP
