Richard Bone Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLFMNOIP

When I first came to Spoon RiverA
I did not know whether what they told meB
Was true or falseC
They would bring me the epitaphD
And stand around the shop while I workedE
And say He was so kind He was wonderfulF
She was the sweetest woman He was a consistent ChristianG
And I chiseled for them whatever they wishedH
All in ignorance of its truthI
But later as I lived among the people hereJ
I knew how near to the lifeK
Were the epitaphs that were ordered for them as they diedL
But still I chiseled whatever they paid me to chiselF
And made myself party to the false chroniclesM
Of the stonesN
Even as the historian does who writesO
Without knowing the truthI
Or because he is influenced to hide itP
