Percival Sharp Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDAEAFGHIAAJAAAKLM INOPQLR

Observe the clasped handsA
Are they hands of farewell or greetingB
Hands that I helped or hands that helped meC
Would it not be well to carve a handD
With an inverted thumb like ElagabalusA
And yonder is a broken chainE
The weakest link idea perhapsA
But what was itF
And lambs some lying downG
Others standing as if listening to the shepherdH
Others bearing a cross one foot lifted upI
Why not chisel a few shamblesA
And fallen columns Carve the pedestal pleaseA
Or the foundations let us see the cause of the fallJ
And compasses and mathematical instrumentsA
In irony of the under tenants' ignoranceA
Of determinants and the calculus of variationsA
And anchors for those who never sailedK
And gates ajar yes so they wereL
You left them open and stray goats entered your gardenM
And an eye watching like one of the ArimaspiI
So did you with one eyeN
And angels blowing trumpets you are heraldedO
It is your horn and your angel and your family's estimateP
It is all very well but for myself I knowQ
I stirred certain vibrations in Spoon RiverL
Which are my true epitaph more lasting than stoneR
