| And rents and patches widen with time | K |
| No thread or needle can pace decay | L |
| And there are stains that baffle soap | M |
| And there are colors that run in spite of you | N |
| Blamed though you are for spoiling a dress | O |
| Handkerchiefs napery have their secrets | P |
| The laundress Life knows all about it | Q |
| And I who went to all the funerals | R |
| Held in Spoon River swear I never | S |
| Saw a dead face without thinking it looked | T |
