Mrs. Kessler Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRST U

Mr Kessler you know was in the armyA
And he drew six dollars a month as a pensionB
And stood on the corner talking politicsC
Or sat at home reading Grant's MemoirsD
And I supported the family by washingE
Learning the secrets of all the peopleF
From their curtains counterpanes shirts and skirtsG
For things that are new grow old at lengthH
They're replaced with better or none at allI
People are prospering or falling backJ
And rents and patches widen with timeK
No thread or needle can pace decayL
And there are stains that baffle soapM
And there are colors that run in spite of youN
Blamed though you are for spoiling a dressO
Handkerchiefs napery have their secretsP
The laundress Life knows all about itQ
And I who went to all the funeralsR
Held in Spoon River swear I neverS
Saw a dead face without thinking it lookedT
Like something washed and ironedU
