Lambert Hutchins Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCADEFDGHIJKLMANOPQ RSGTUV

I have two monuments besides this granite obeliskA
One the house I built on the hillB
With its spires bay windows and roof of slateC
The other the lake front in ChicagoA
Where the railroad keeps a switching yardD
With whistling engines and crunching wheelsE
And smoke and soot thrown over the cityF
And the crash of cars along the boulevardD
A blot like a hog pen on the harborG
Of a great metropolis foul as a styH
I helped to give this heritageI
To generations yet unborn with my voteJ
In the House of RepresentativesK
And the lure of the thing was to be at restL
From the never ending fright of needM
And to give my daughters gentle breedingA
And a sense of security in lifeN
But you see though I had the mansion houseO
And traveling passes and local distinctionP
I could hear the whispers whispers whispersQ
Wherever I went and my daughters grew upR
With a look as if someone were about to strike themS
And they married madly helter skelterG
Just to get out and have a changeT
And what was the whole of the business worthU
Why it wasn't worth a damnV
