Knowlt Hoheimer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDCEDF

I was the first fruits of the battle of Missionary RidgeA
When I felt the bullet enter my heartB
I wished I had staid at home and gone to jailC
For stealing the hogs of Curl TrenaryD
Instead of running away and joining the armyD
Rather a thousand times the county jailC
Than to lie under this marble figure with wingsE
And this granite pedestal Bearing the words Pro PatriaD
What do they mean anywayF
