Josiah Tompkins Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIIJKLLDMKKI was well known and much beloved | A |
And rich as fortunes are reckoned | B |
In Spoon River where I had lived and worked | C |
That was the home for me | D |
Though all my children had flown afar | E |
Which is the way of Nature all but one | F |
The boy who was the baby stayed at home | G |
To be my help in my failing years | H |
And the solace of his mother | I |
But I grew weaker as he grew stronger | I |
And he quarreled with me about the business | J |
And his wife said I was a hindrance to it | K |
And he won his mother to see as he did | L |
Till they tore me up to be transplanted | L |
With them to her girlhood home in Missouri | D |
And so much of my fortune was gone at last | M |
Though I made the will just as he drew it | K |
He profited little by it | K |
