Jonathan Swift Somers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIAJAKLM

After you have enriched your soulA
To the highest pointB
With books thought suffering the understanding of many personalitiesC
The power to interpret glances silencesD
The pauses in momentous transformationsE
The genius of divination and prophecyF
So that you feel able at times to hold the worldG
In the hollow of your handH
Then if by the crowding of so many powersI
Into the compass of your soulA
Your soul takes fireJ
And in the conflagration of your soulA
The evil of the world is lighted up and made clearK
Be thankful if in that hour of supreme visionL
Life does not fiddleM
