Ida Chicken Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHGIJKHLMNOC

After I had attended lecturesA
At our Chautauqua and studied FrenchB
For twenty years committing the grammarC
Almost by heartD
I thought I'd take a trip to ParisE
To give my culture a final polishF
So I went to Peoria for a passportG
Thomas Rhodes was on the train that morningH
And there the clerk of the district CourtG
Made me swear to support and defendI
The constitution yes even meJ
Who couldn't defend or support it at allK
And what do you think That very morningH
The Federal Judge in the very next roomL
To the room where I took the oathM
Decided the constitutionN
Exempted Rhodes from paying taxesO
For the water works of Spoon RiverC
