Henry C. Calhoun Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGAHIAJDDDKDLDD MN

I reached the highest place in Spoon RiverA
But through what bitterness of spiritB
The face of my father sitting speechlessC
Child like watching his canariesD
And looking at the court house windowE
Of the county judge's roomF
And his admonitions to me to seekG
My own in life and punish Spoon RiverA
To avenge the wrong the people did himH
Filled me with furious energyI
To seek for wealth and seek for powerA
But what did he do but send me alongJ
The path that leads to the grove of the FuriesD
I followed the path and I tell you thisD
On the way to the grove you'll pass the FatesD
Shadow eyed bent over their weavingK
Stop for a moment and if you seeD
The thread of revenge leap out of the shuttleL
Then quickly snatch from AtroposD
The shears and cut it lest your sonsD
And the children of them and their childrenM
Wear the envenomed robeN
