Harry Carey Goodhue Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEAFGHIJKLMNAOPQM RKSTU

You never marveled dullards of Spoon RiverA
When Chase Henry voted against the saloonsB
To revenge himself for being shut offC
But none of you was keen enoughD
To follow my steps or trace me homeE
As Chase's spiritual brotherA
Do you remember when I foughtF
The bank and the courthouse ringG
For pocketing the interest on public fundsH
And when I fought our leading citizensI
For making the poor the pack horses of the taxesJ
And when I fought the water worksK
For stealing streets and raising ratesL
And when I fought the business menM
Who fought me in these fightsN
Then do you rememberA
That staggering up from the wreck of defeatO
And the wreck of a ruined careerP
I slipped from my cloak my last idealQ
Hidden from all eyes until thenM
Like the cherished jawbone of an assR
And smote the bank and the water worksK
And the business men with prohibitionS
And made Spoon River pay the costT
Of the fights that I had lostU
