Hail! Master Death! Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDGD HIHIJDJD KLKLMDMD

When conquerors lift the bloody shieldA
Showing the fallen's ooze of lifeB
And on a waste of blasted fieldA
Joy quickens to the drum and fifeB
Then the weird brood of flame and fateC
Far under ground are ill at easeD
And rock their bodies as they waitC
When Death shall strangle even theseD
-
The banquet board is red and whiteE
And laughter bubbles with the wineF
But what's the meed of this delightE
The pauper's children peak and pineF
Enough our sisters laughing stirG
The prescient worm which scents and seesD
The feast time shall not long deferG
For Death shall strangle even theseD
-
Tumbled at last in earth and lostH
To church bells sycophant and priestI
The sodden hulks of those who crossedH
The world with sorrow west and eastI
True Holder of the scales and swordJ
God of all Gods whose stern decreesD
Scatter the emperor's bloody hoardJ
Great Death who stranglest even theseD
-
So we shall not forever lieK
In graves o'er run by cloven feetL
We vanquished who were first to dieK
We hooted from the judgment seatL
Come arm d hands and hands that clutchM
The bauble world fall to your kneesD
Oh you who triumphed over muchM
For death shall strangle even theseD
