Granville Calhoun Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIBJFKLMNODP

I wanted to be County JudgeA
One more term so as to round out a serviceB
Of thirty yearsC
But my friends left me and joined my enemiesD
And they elected a new manE
Then a spirit of revenge seized meF
And I infected my four sons with itG
And I brooded upon retaliationH
Until the great physician NatureI
Smote me through with paralysisB
To give my soul and body a restJ
Did my sons get power and moneyF
Did they serve the people or yoke themK
To till and harvest fields of selfL
For how could they ever forgetM
My face at my bed room windowN
Sitting helpless amid my golden cagesO
Of singing canariesD
Looking at the old court houseP
