Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEAFGHIJKLFMNOPAQ RSTYou are over there Father Malloy | A |
Where holy ground is and the cross marks every grave | B |
Not here with us on the hill | C |
Us of wavering faith and clouded vision | D |
And drifting hope and unforgiven sins | E |
You were so human Father Malloy | A |
Taking a friendly glass sometimes with us | F |
Siding with us who would rescue Spoon River | G |
From the coldness and the dreariness of village morality | H |
You were like a traveler who brings a little box of sand | I |
From the wastes about the pyramids | J |
And makes them real and Egypt real | K |
You were a part of and related to a great past | L |
And yet you were so close to many of us | F |
You believed in the joy of life | M |
You did not seem to be ashamed of the flesh | N |
You faced life as it is | O |
And as it changes | P |
Some of us almost came to you Father Malloy | A |
Seeing how your church had divined the heart | Q |
And provided for it | R |
Through Peter the Flame | S |
Peter the Rock | T |
