Father Malloy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEAFGHIJKLFMNOPAQ RST

You are over there Father MalloyA
Where holy ground is and the cross marks every graveB
Not here with us on the hillC
Us of wavering faith and clouded visionD
And drifting hope and unforgiven sinsE
You were so human Father MalloyA
Taking a friendly glass sometimes with usF
Siding with us who would rescue Spoon RiverG
From the coldness and the dreariness of village moralityH
You were like a traveler who brings a little box of sandI
From the wastes about the pyramidsJ
And makes them real and Egypt realK
You were a part of and related to a great pastL
And yet you were so close to many of usF
You believed in the joy of lifeM
You did not seem to be ashamed of the fleshN
You faced life as it isO
And as it changesP
Some of us almost came to you Father MalloyA
Seeing how your church had divined the heartQ
And provided for itR
Through Peter the FlameS
Peter the RockT
