English Thornton Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLLMNNOPQR

Here You sons of the menA
Who fought with Washington at Valley ForgeB
And whipped Black Hawk at Starved RockC
Arise Do battle with the descendants of thoseD
Who bought land in the loop when it was waste sandE
And sold blankets and guns to the army of GrantF
And sat in legislatures in the early daysG
Taking bribes from the railroadsH
Arise Do battle with the fops and bluffsI
The pretenders and figurantes of the society columnJ
And the yokel souls whose daughters marry countsK
And the parasites on great ideasL
And the noisy riders of great causesL
And the heirs of ancient theftsM
Arise And make the city yoursN
And the State yoursN
You who are sons of the hardy yeomanry of the fortiesO
By God If you do not destroy these verminP
My avenging ghost will wipe outQ
Your city and your stateR
