Elsa Wertman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDAEFGAHIAJKLMANOP JDQ

I was a peasant girl from GermanyA
Blue eyed rosy happy and strongB
And the first place I worked was at Thomas Greene'sC
On a summer's day when she was awayD
He stole into the kitchen and took meA
Right in his arms and kissed me on my throatE
I turning my head Then neither of usF
Seemed to know what happenedG
And I cried for what would become of meA
And cried and cried as my secret began to showH
One day Mrs Greene said she understoodI
And would make no trouble for meA
And being childless would adopt itJ
He had given her a farm to be stillK
So she hid in the house and sent out rumorsL
As if it were going to happen to herM
And all went well and the child was born They were so kind to meA
Later I married Gus Wertman and years passedN
But at political rallies when sitters by thought I was cryingO
At the eloquence of Hamilton GreeneP
That was not itJ
No I wanted to sayD
That's my son That's my sonQ
