Elmer Karr Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGFHI

What but the love of God could have softenedA
And made forgiving the people of Spoon RiverB
Toward me who wronged the bed of Thomas MerrittC
And murdered him besideD
Oh loving hearts that took me in againE
When I returned from fourteen years in prisonF
Oh helping hands that in the church received meG
And heard with tears my penitent confessionF
Who took the sacrament of bread and wineH
Repent ye living ones and rest with JesusI
