Elliott Hawkins Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFACGHAIAJKFLMNO APQRS

I looked like Abraham LincolnA
I was one of you Spoon River in all fellowshipB
But standing for the rights of property and for orderC
A regular church attendantD
Sometimes appearing in your town meetings to warn youE
Against the evils of discontent and envyF
And to denounce those who tried to destroy the UnionA
And to point to the peril of the Knights of LaborC
My success and my example are inevitable influencesG
In your young men and in generations to comeH
In spite of attacks of newspapers like the ClarionA
A regular visitor at SpringfieldI
When the Legislature was in sessionA
To prevent raids upon the railroadsJ
And the men building up the stateK
Trusted by them and by you Spoon River equallyF
In spite of the whispers that I was a lobbyistL
Moving quietly through the world rich and courtedM
Dying at last of course but lying hereN
Under a stone with an open book carved upon itO
And the words Of such is the Kingdom of HeavenA
And now you world savers who reaped nothing in lifeP
And in death have neither stones nor epitaphsQ
How do you like your silence from mouths stoppedR
With the dust of my triumphant careerS
