Dorcas Gustine Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLHM| I was not beloved of the villagers | A |
| But all because I spoke my mind | B |
| And met those who transgressed against me | C |
| With plain remonstrance hiding nor nurturing | D |
| Nor secret griefs nor grudges | E |
| That act of the Spartan boy is greatly praised | F |
| Who hid the wolf under his cloak | G |
| Letting it devour him uncomplainingly | H |
| It is braver I think to snatch the wolf forth | I |
| And fight him openly even in the street | J |
| Amid dust and howls of pain | K |
| The tongue may be an unruly member | L |
| But silence poisons the soul | H |
| Berate me who will I am content | M |
