| And all the weak the halt the improvident | C |
| And those who could not pay flocked to me | D |
| I was good hearted easy Doctor Meyers | E |
| I was healthy happy in comfortable fortune | F |
| Blest with a congenial mate my children raised | C |
| All wedded doing well in the world | C |
| And then one night Minerva the poetess | E |
| Came to me in her trouble crying | G |
| I tried to help her out she died | C |
| They indicted me the newspapers disgraced me | D |
| My wife perished of a broken heart | C |
| And pneumonia finished me | D |
