Charles Webster Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGDHIJKEDLMNOPQ RSTUV| The pine woods on the hill | A |
| And the farmhouse miles away | B |
| Showed clear as though behind a lens | C |
| Under a sky of peacock blue | D |
| But a blanket of cloud by afternoon | E |
| Muffled the earth And you walked the road | F |
| And the clover field where the only sound | G |
| Was the cricket's liquid tremolo | D |
| Then the sun went down between great drifts | H |
| Of distant storms For a rising wind | I |
| Swept clean the sky and blew the flames | J |
| Of the unprotected stars | K |
| And swayed the russet moon | E |
| Hanging between the rim of the hill | D |
| And the twinkling boughs of the apple orchard | L |
| You walked the shore in thought | M |
| Where the throats of the waves were like whip poor wills | N |
| Singing beneath the water and crying | O |
| To the wash of the wind in the cedar trees | P |
| Till you stood too full for tears by the cot | Q |
| And looking up saw Jupiter | R |
| Tipping the spire of the giant pine | S |
| And looking down saw my vacant chair | T |
| Rocked by the wind on the lonely porch | U |
| Be brave Beloved | V |
